We had the opportunity to do some live track testing of our 1966 FAST-AF Air filters which were designed to work on:
- Stock 1966 Tri-powers with Rochester 2bbls (using our Efi Pontiac Tripower Adapaters 1966 TIP-EFI-TRIPS-T )
- Tin Indian Performance FiTech EFI Tri-power system (using our EFI Tripower Air Cleaner Bases TIP-EFI-TRIPS-ACL13)
- 1966 Holley (350 and 500 cfm carb) Tri-power for Pontiac (using the KRE Trade Wind Tri-Fi aftermarket Tripower intake manifold)
This testing was performed at the 2023 Ames Performance Pontiac Tripower Nationals on Saturday July 22, 2023. Todd Sedlmeier volunteered his time and his beautiful 1965 GTO street car. It currently has a Barry Grant 6 shooter intake (out of production), FiTech EFI, hyd roller cam, 434 cid, KRE High Port headed engine. He had previously ran 11.93 in the spring at Norwalk with it.
Todd made a few runs on Friday to see where the car was at and it was running about what he expected. The plan was to take weather readings off of our Computech RaceAir Pro weather station as close as we could to Todd’s passes (a little bit of a challenge due to track down time etc). Todd drove past our display area in the pits letting us know he was heading to the lanes and as luck would have it, we grabbed weather readings pretty close to his actual passes.
Pass #1 with Todd’s original Air cleaner and filter setup
Pass made @ Time of Day 11:08 am
Right Lane
Weather Recorded: 11:00 am
Correction Factor: 1.0712
Density Altitude: 2888 feet
Barometric Pressure: 28.406
Water Grains: 78.40
Todd ran an 11.948 ET @ 113.45 mph
We then handed over a set of our TIP-ACL-13 FiTech air cleaner bases, a set of new 1966-FAST-AF air filters, a stock set of chrome Tripower lids, and accompanying hardware (studs and wing nuts). Todd got this bolted up and headed back to the lanes to make his 2nd pass of the day.
Pass #2 with Tin Indian Performance Air cleaner and FAST-AF air filter setup
Pass made @ Time of Day 4:03 pm
Right Lane
Weather Recorded: 3:45 pm
Correction Factor: 1.0717
Density Altitude: 3038 feet (+150 difference)
Barometric Pressure: 28.51
Water Grains: 58.40
Todd ran an 11.781 ET @ 114.05 mph
According to our math that is a .167 improvement in ET and a .6 mph improvement in speed! Not too shabby in our book.
A big thanks to Todd for helping us conduct this test.
