John Reynolds was looking for a strong / reliable combo for his Firebird project – about 500 to 525 horse power plant that was a good driver. John really wanted to use a Kauffman Performance MR-1 aftermarket block as the foundation of his build but with limited availability of cast iron blocks, we opted to use a 1971 400 for his stroker build. John decided to top of this build with a set of Early Firebird logo Billet-TEK valve covers and a QFT 850 with an electric choke. The QFT carb was a bit different from our of our normal product choice for an engine of this caliber but it performed quite well. This combo ripped of 557 horsepower and made 603.8 ft lbs of tire shredding torque! Should be a fun ride in John’s Firebird!
